How Britain Nearly Went to War With the Soviet Union in 1940

A 1940 Pamphlet About Finland’s Winter War

During the Soviet Union’s Winter War against Finland, my father Raymond Williams and future famous historian Eric Hobsbawn were both members of the British Communist Party.  They wrote an anonymous pamphlet that the Communist Party had assigned them.

It gets misrepresented.  If it says some hostile things about Finland’s right-wing and autocratic government, it is mostly against a planned 1940 British War against the Soviet Union.

For more on the context, see Raymond Williams’s Communist Past.
