710) Stories under 1000 words

At the Coventry Writers Group, we regularly have a competition where everyone writes a short or very-short story on a chosen topic.  I’ve found it a useful inspiration, and think some of my stories worth circulating here.

  • Third Time Lucky.   A Briton from 2015 finds himself mysteriously in 1915.  He could change history.  But should he?
  • A Ghost Wind for Christmas.  Humans could travel between stars. But the power of a supernova was still outside of human control. A wind that rocks the local universe.
  • The Ashes Of My Brief Existence.  A teenage delinquent knows that she must die, that others may live.

What you see here and at Very Short Stories are corrected and improved versions, often including suggestions from other members of the group.  And my own further ideas: ‘Third Time Lucky
